Brilliant Things

If you come on an ATE Superweek, a lot of brilliant things will happen to you and life will most probably never be the same again.

The first Brilliant Thing
You will be very, very excited about where you will be staying for your holiday. The places where Superweeks happen are altogether rather unforgettable (hopefully you’ve already seen our centres page).

When we look for a Superweek centre, we have a very long list of things we like it to have, including;

  • A swimming pool (most of our centres have their own pool)
  • Lots and lots and lots of outdoor spaces, fields and woods.
  • Big indoor spaces for evening activities and games.
  • Little indoor spaces for smaller groups to use as their own, or to hide in!
  • Lovely dormitories for night time whisperings and cosy sleeps.

The second Brilliant Thing
You get your very own Monitor. Now, you have to share this Monitor with about 6 or 7 other Superweekers, and they will be your group. If you come with a friend, you’ll probably be in the same group, but most people come by themselves.

It’s your Monitor’s job to always be there and to make sure that you have the most Super-est Superweek you possibly can (they’ll be so full of ideas and fun things for you to do that they’ll have blue bubbles coming out of their ears).

They’ll sit at your table for meals, sleep in your dorm, make sure you brush your teeth every day, and become one of the best friends you’ll make on your Superweek.

The third Brilliant Thing
You’ll be able to go home and say you made 40 or 50 new
friends, and that you did things like hanging out together at
bonfires toasting marshmallows, going to a theme park and
spending an afternoon building rafts to sail across the river.

And the fourth Brilliant Thing
You’ll discover that you can do things you never knew you could. Like learn the alphabet in sign language, become a prisoner ball champion, realise you’re actually really good at making salt dough animals, and that there are other people out there with as bad a taste in jokes as you.

And there’ll be a hundred other Brilliant Things too

A hundred things we think it’s important every child has the chance to do, but we just don’t have enough room to tell you about them here, and it’s much more fun to find them out for yourself.
